How to Clean and Disinfect Your Grow Tent or Grow Room
Pests and mold love a dirty grow. Here's how to clean, disinfect and keep the smell of your indoor setup under control.

To clean a grow tent or grow room, take everything out, wipe all surfaces with a diluted disinfectant (bleach, vinegar or hydrogen peroxide), let it dry for 24 hours and then keep it tidy every day while your plants grow. A tidy grower is a successful grower: pests and mold can wipe out entire plants, so taking the time to clean is non-negotiable.
Even if all your gear is brand new, you should disinfect and sterilize everything before the plants go in. And if you've already run your setup a few times, it definitely needs a cleaning. Dust buildup can damage fans and lighting, and standing water at the bottom can breed mold and fungus that will eventually rot your materials.
Bleach works well, but like any concentrated product, go easy and always dilute it in water. The recommended ratio is 10 ml of bleach per 3 liters of water (about 2 teaspoons per 3 quarts), and you can use that solution on every surface. If you'd rather skip the chemicals, mix two cups of vinegar into two liters (about half a gallon) of water and use it on the walls of your tent or room and on the fans. Hydrogen peroxide works the same way. Once everything's clean, let it dry for 24 hours.
Between grows, give your containers a thorough cleaning and make sure no fungus or old soil is left behind. You can use the same solutions, and let them dry too. Once the room and all your gear are clean, you're ready to start your grow.

How do you keep an indoor grow from smelling?
To keep the smell of an indoor grow under control, especially in a home grow tent, there are a few things you can do:- Carbon filter: adding a carbon filter to your grow's ventilation system is one of the most effective ways to kill odors. The carbon filter traps and neutralizes smells before the air leaves your grow space.
- Exhaust fans and proper ventilation: make sure your indoor grow has a decent exhaust and ventilation setup. Exhaust fans pull out stale air and odors and bring fresh air into the space.
- Seal your grow space: make sure your grow tent is properly sealed so the smell doesn't leak out. Use quality materials and sealants to keep the odor contained.
- Odor neutralizers: you can use commercial odor neutralizers or deodorizers made specifically for indoor grows. They help cancel out unwanted smells.
- Low-odor genetics: when you pick strains for your indoor grow, consider ones with subtler, less pungent smell profiles. Some strains are just less stinky, which helps keep the smell down.

How do you disinfect a grow tent?
Disinfecting a home grow tent comes down to a few key steps. First, give the tent a thorough initial clean, taking out all plants, equipment and anything else inside. Wipe every surface with a damp cloth to remove dust, dirt and plant debris. Next, mix up a disinfecting solution by diluting a suitable disinfectant in water according to the manufacturer's instructions. Common options are isopropyl alcohol or diluted bleach. Stick to the dilution and safety instructions on the label. Apply the solution to every surface of the tent, using a spray bottle or a clean cloth soaked in it. Cover everything: walls, floor, poles and anything else in the tent. Let it sit for the contact time recommended on the product so it actually does its job. Once the contact time is up, carefully rinse all surfaces with clean water to remove any disinfectant residue. Finally, make sure the tent is completely dry before you set it back up and start growing again. Disinfecting your grow tent regularly keeps unwanted microorganisms from taking hold and gives your plants a clean, healthy environment. What should you use to disinfect your grow room floor?
To disinfect the floor of your grow space, you can use a solution based on bleach or isopropyl alcohol. Bleach is effective at killing microorganisms. Dilute it in water following the manufacturer's instructions and apply it across the whole floor. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with clean water to remove any residue. Isopropyl alcohol is another effective disinfectant: spray it directly on the floor and wipe it with a clean cloth or mop. Let the floor dry completely before you start growing again. And always follow the safety instructions on the products and clean in a well-ventilated space (never mix bleach with other cleaners).Click here for more info (courses in Spanish)
