How to Make Weed Gummies and Cannabis Lollipops at Home
Two easy cannabis candy recipes, the emulsifier trick that keeps your gummies from separating and how to dose them without overdoing it.
To make weed gummies, you gently heat cannabis-infused coconut oil with water, gelatin and an emulsifier like sunflower or soy lecithin, then pour the mix into molds and chill it; cannabis lollipops work the same way, with tincture stirred into sugar syrup cooked to the hard-crack stage. People have been smoking and vaping weed for thousands of years, but edibles like these give you a solid high and some seriously tasty flavors on top.
Why are cannabis edibles so popular?
Edibles are a different experience, and they're not meant to replace smoking or vaping. So why are they such a hit?
Edibles earned their popularity by delivering a powerful, full-bodied high that can feel different from smoking weed. The great thing about cooking with cannabis is that an edible high can last for hours.
Edibles like THC candy, cookies, hard candy and lollipops or gummies are a great alternative for people who can't smoke or just don't like it. They're also a fun thing to snack on at a party.
But today we're focusing on cannabis gummies and how to make them.

How do you make weed gummies?
To pull off these weed gummies, you need to understand one term: emulsification.
Cannabis oil doesn't naturally mix with water or with some of the melted ingredients in these recipes, which can leave you with a layer of oil separating out of your gummies, or gummies that just don't have the right texture.
Soy lecithin is the go-to fix. What is it? An emulsifier like soy or sunflower lecithin lets the whole gummy mix blend evenly into that perfect chewy texture we're after.
First things first: gather your gear. You'll need a stovetop, a saucepan, a whisk, a dropper, a gummy bear mold (or worms, or whatever shape you like) and a freezer.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup cannabis oil (coconut oil base)
- ½ cup cold water
- 1 package (85 g / 3 oz) flavored gelatin, like Jell-O
- 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
- ½ teaspoon sunflower or soy lecithin
Step by step:
- Add the water, cannabis oil and sunflower/soy lecithin to the saucepan and cook over low heat.
- Stir until the oil is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Add the flavored and unflavored gelatin, stirring constantly.
- Keep it on low heat for 10–15 minutes until the gelatin dissolves, whisking constantly and making sure it doesn't boil.
- Use a dropper to fill the gummy molds one by one, and work fast so the liquid doesn't cool and separate. Keep stirring the rest of the mix often so it doesn't set.
- Once the mold is full, put the cannabis gummies in the freezer for 20–25 minutes. We recommend storing them in the fridge.
Edibles hit differently from smoking: when you eat cannabis, your liver turns THC into 11-hydroxy-THC, a more potent compound, so even though a big chunk of the cannabinoids (THC/CBD) is lost along the way, the high feels stronger and lasts longer. Bottom line: edibles come on slow and hit hard. Instead of fighting a bad trip, avoid one. Start low, the effects can take 30 to 60 minutes to kick in, so give it time.
How to make homemade cannabis lollipops
The secret to making lollipops successfully is nailing the temperature. Heating the candy to what's known as the "hard-crack stage" (when strands of sugar snap easily) gives your lollipop the structure it needs.
Making weed lollipops can be a little tricky, but it's totally doable. Before you start, we recommend covering your work area with parchment paper.
Ingredients
- 2–3 tablespoons cannabis tincture
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- ¼ cup filtered water
- 1 teaspoon orange or lemon flavoring
Equipment
- Saucepan
- Candy thermometer
- Candy molds: look for silicone molds so the finished candy pops out easily
- Lollipop sticks
Recipe
- Over medium-high heat, combine the sugar, corn syrup and filtered water. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Bring the mixture to a boil. Once it's boiling, stop stirring and insert the candy thermometer.
- When the thermometer hits 150 °C (300 °F), take it off the heat right away. Leave the thermometer in.
- Wait until the mixture cools to 120 °C (250 °F), then add the lemon or orange flavoring and the cannabis tincture.
- Pour the mixture into the candy molds.
- Let it cool completely, which takes 20 minutes or more.
- Enjoy, or store in an airtight container.

How strong are homemade weed gummies and cannabis lollipops?
Learning how to make THC gummies isn't hard. But how strong your homemade edibles turn out can be confusing.
The potency of your cannabis gummies and lollipops depends entirely on the strength of the cannabis preparation you used. If you used a mild tincture, or not much of it, that'll show in the final potency.
Likewise, cutting your recipe with regular butter instead of cannabutter will bring the potency down.
Most likely, after about an hour and a half you'll be right where you wanted to be. And it never hurts to repeat it: whatever cannabis recipe you decide to make, please keep it out of reach of kids.
That's why, the first time you make these lollipops or gummies, you may want to try a lower dose and take it easy. Ideally, eat half a piece to avoid an intense high if you're not used to edibles or have never tried them. Either way, keep in mind that how high you get depends on the edible you make.
