How to Roll a Blunt in 7 Easy Steps
From splitting the cigar to toasting the seams, here's how to roll a blunt that burns slow and even.
How do you roll a blunt, step by step?

STEP 1: Grind your weed
To roll a blunt, you grind your weed, split and empty a cigar or grab a tobacco-free blunt wrap, wet the wrap, fill it with 1 to 2 grams, roll and seal it, then dry it with a lighter before you spark it. Start by running your weed through a grinder. The finer and more even it is, the better it burns, giving you smoother, more enjoyable hits. You can also go old school and break it up by hand, which makes the blunt burn slower.
STEP 2: PREP THE BLUNT WRAP
Unless you've got a tobacco-free blunt wrap, you'll need to gut a cigar or cigarillo and keep its outer leaf. First, split the wrap: take a sharp knife and carefully slice it lengthwise. Once it's open down the middle, dump out the tobacco. (Some seasoned rollers skip the knife altogether: if you're careful, you can split the cigar with your fingers.)
STEP 3: WET THE WRAP
Blunt wraps can be fragile, with cracks and tears. To make it easier to roll and seal, moisten it. The best way is to dip your fingertips lightly in a bowl of water. You can also use spit, but it's not the most hygienic option, especially if you're sharing.
STEP 4: FILL THE BLUNT WRAP WITH WEED
Now it's time to load the wrap with your ground weed. With a small cigarillo wrap you'll only need a gram or two. If it's bigger, like a full-size cigar or a pre-made blunt wrap, you might need more to fill it. STEP 5: ROLL THE BLUNT
Once it's loaded, work the wrap between your fingers so the weed spreads evenly from end to end. Be careful not to tear it, especially if it's still dry. When everything's evenly packed and the blunt looks nice and round, tuck the wrap down and moisten the inside of the exposed edge from one end to the other. If you still see wrinkles or lumpy spots, smooth them out with your fingers. If there are cracks or holes, patch them with the glue strip from a rolling paper
STEP 6: DRY THE BLUNT
Once your blunt is looking good, dry it so it doesn't crack, and so it burns better and more evenly. Grab your lighter and run the flame along the blunt a couple of times, especially over the seams. Don't hold it too close for too long. You're baking it, not lighting it!
STEP 7: ENJOY YOUR BLUNT
Your blunt is ready. Spark it up.

How much weed do you need for a blunt?
How much weed goes into a blunt depends on its size and your personal preference. A blunt is a roll made with a tobacco leaf or an emptied cigar wrap, filled with cannabis. It usually takes more weed than a regular joint.
On average, you're looking at about 1 to 2 grams of cannabis per blunt. Some people go heavier or lighter depending on their preferences and tolerance. Remember that a blunt is bigger than a regular joint, so you'll need to factor in how much your wrap or leaf can hold.
To roll a blunt, break up the weed and spread it evenly along the wrap. Then roll it carefully, wet the wrap to seal it, and light it up.
Keep in mind that how much you smoke should be responsible and in line with local laws and regulations. Always stay within the law and use cannabis responsibly.
How do you roll a joint from scratch?
To roll a joint from scratch, you'll need ground cannabis, rolling papers, a grinder (optional), a cardboard filter tip, also called a crutch (optional), and a lighter or matches. Here's how to roll one:
-
Prep: If you've got a grinder, use it to break the weed down into smaller, even pieces. No grinder? You can break it up by hand.
-
Set up the paper: Hold the rolling paper between your fingers. If you're using a crutch, roll it into a small cylinder and set it at one end of the paper.
-
Spread the weed: Lay the ground cannabis on the paper and spread it evenly from end to end. How much you use depends on your preferences and tolerance.
-
Roll: Start rolling the paper around the weed, using your fingers to shape the joint. Apply light pressure so it comes out tight and firm.
-
Seal: Once it's rolled, lightly lick the glue strip along the edge of the paper. That seals the joint.
-
Finish: With the joint rolled and sealed, give it the final touches by tweaking the shape and lightly packing the end with the crutch, if you used one.
-
Light: Light the tip with a lighter or matches and draw gently from the other end. Don't hold the flame on it too long, or you'll torch the paper.
